The ACT Center for Tobacco Treatment, Education and Research

The goal of the ACT Center Tobacco Treatment Program is to help people quit using tobacco and stay quit using a proven, evidence-based approach.

The ACT Center endorses influential documents guiding tobacco cessation policy and practices, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Best Practices for Comprehensive Tobacco Control Programs and the Public Health Service (PHS) Guideline, Treating Tobacco Use and Dependence.

The demand for ACT Center clinical services has steadily increased since the Center opened in 1999.

Our clinic population is diverse with respect to ethnic background, gender, age, and other factors.

Treatment involves:

  • An initial intake session, to determine if this is the best program for you, and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
  • A series of 6 treatment sessions to teach you the skills to quit and stay quit. Medications are prescribed as appropriate.
  • Brief, follow-up sessions to increase your chances for staying quit permanently. Patients are followed for as long as necessary.

All treatment is free of charge to Mississippi residents
